 EMaxx with deck  The Autonomous E-Maxx Project involves modifying a Traxxas E-Maxx 1/10th scale RC monster truck into an autonomous robot.  Each phase of the project will have a corresponding article (first article is published in April's issue of Servo Magazine) that documents the objectives, work done and lessons learned for that phase.  At the completion of the project, we hope to have provided readers with enough information to build a robot based on the E-Maxx.

Article 1 : Hacking the E-Maxx

•    Upgrade the steering servo to improve maneuverability.
•    Strengthen the suspension to support the additional weight of the robotic hardware and deck.
•    Change the transmission’s gear ratio to increase the effective torque.
•    Choose and install appropriate batteries.
•    Create and mount a deck to hold the robotic hardware.

Article 2: Controlling the E-Maxx with Your Computer and a Joystick

•    Building a Servo Module
•    Building a Wireless Communications Module
•    Choosing and Programming an Application Host

<Article2.pdf>

Article 3: Motor Skills

•    Replacing the ESC with H-Bridge controllers
•    Adding a rotational encoder to the transmission
•    Controlling velocity

Article 4: A Sense of Direction

•    Odometry
•    Adding a digital compass
•    Dead reckoning
